Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Our teacher this year is Miss Roberts and we also have Mrs Lane to teach Spanish.

Update 03.07.13
We are all looking forward to tomorrow, as we will be having a Victorian afternoon of activities. There will be a classroom to practice our handwriting, a variety of games and some gardening. It is going to be great fun experiencing what life for Victorian children would have been like.

Update 23.06.13
Well we are pleased to announce that we were able to release 3 butterflies on Thursday. Unfortunately one of them has a poorly wing so we are looking after him in class.
We all really enjoyed looking after them from a tiny caterpillar through to transforming into a beautiful butterfly.

Our topic for the final term is:
The Victorians.
We will be learning all about what it would have been like for children living in Britain during this period.
Keep checking this page for any further updates.

Special Update!!!- 23.05.13
Exciting News!- Our 5 baby caterpillars arrived in our class today. We spent some time looking at them and making sure we were really quiet so as not to disturb them.
We will look after them until they turn into beautiful butterflies in a few weeks time.
We have named them:
Wiggle Fiddle
Captain Butter

Update 06.03.13
WOW! What a great adventure we had today exploring Lydiard Park. We spent the morning looking, smelling and listening to life in a woodland. Year 4 saw some beautiful snow drops and enjoyed discovering trees and leaves of all different shapes and sizes. The bird song was beautiful and we heard the relaxing sound of a waterfall on our walk.
We all had an explorer's pack that had lots of lovely activites to complete as we explored. This included: leaf and bark rubbing, opportunites to sketch, describing what the trees were like, a chance to write a poem and much, much more.
Our groups collected items such as leaves and other interesting woodland artefacts to add to a string journey of our adventure. We shared these back at school and the children drew what they had found.
All in all a great trip and most importantly it DIDN'T rain!
-Photos of our trip to follow shortly. Keep checking this page.

Update 24.02.13
Lots of things have been happening in Year 4. We took part in the Sign2Sing event to break the Guiness World Record for the most people signing and singing at the same time. We are just waiting for confirmation on the total fingers crossed!

We also visited a Mosque on Wednesday last week with Year 3 and we all learnt alot about the building and the religion of Islam. Year 4 in particular asked some fantastic questions and represented the school really well with their attitude to learning and most of all their excellent behaviour. Well done Year 4!

 Stars of the Week

This week the superstars are:

Katie-Louisa- For an excellent demonstration of the recovery position in First Aid.

Ryan- Supporting and helping other children with their work.

Please can you ensure that your child has a pair of daps or other indoor footwear to wear within the school building :)
We expect children to read every night. Every time they read at home they need to get their reading record signed with any comments about how they have read. It is also really helpful if you can identify when a child has finished a book so we know to provide them with a question sheet/ book review or give them a new book. Children do not have to read to an adult but still need to have their book signed to say that they have read.
PE will be on Mondays; however there may be opportunities for children to complete PE activities on other days so it is important your child has their PE kit with them every day. We will send home PE kit at the end of term so it can be washed. Can you please make sure that your child has suitable footwear and clothing for PE.
Tuck will be on a Tuesday. Items are 30p each and each child is allowed a maximum of 2 items per week. If possible, please can you put tuck money in a small envelope with your child’s name or ensure they have somewhere safe to keep it until our slot.
