This term our topic is:

Heroes and Villains

We will be learning about fictional heroes and villains, as well as real life heroes.

General information

Children will read in school every day, this will be 1:1 with an adult, group reading or quiet reading in class.  Children may change their books in school once they have read at home and in school to an adult and shown good understanding of their book.

Children are not required to read a whole book each day (they can if they want to!) a few pages with some discussion is enough to support and enhance their learning.

Once your child has read at home, please record this in their reading record with the date, who your child has read with and add a short comment if you wish to.

Once the class have settled into year 1, the children will bring home a set of spellings each week. Please use the book provided to help your child to practice spelling the given words.  The children will not be given a weekly ‘test’, however, they will be continually and discreetly assessed in school for these.

PE kit and daps

Please ensure that your child has a school PE kit in school throughout each term. This consists of a white t.shirt, blue/black shorts (tracksuit bottoms in the Winter) and trainers/daps.

Children will also need a change of daps for indoor wear and suitable school shoes for playtimes.

Please don’t hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions regarding any aspect of

your child’s learning in school.

I look forward to working with you and your children.

Understanding our Behaviour System

Silver Star

Children's names are moved onto the silver star when they have shown exceptionally good behaviour i.e Helping a friend or completing outstanding work!

Children's names who are on green have completed their work to a good standard and shown good behaviour throughout the day.

Children's names are moved onto orange when they have been given a warning about their behaviour.  They are given the opportunity to work they way back onto green.

Children's names are moved onto red when a second warning is issued.  Each time a name is moved onto red a point is taken from the child resulting in 5 minutes loss of golden time.
