Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Welcome to Year 3 class page!
You can keep up to date with what we have been doing in class and we can inform you of any new and exciting things we are learning about.
Our class teachers are Miss Roberts and Mrs Orr and our teaching assistant is Mrs Keye.

Update Last Week of Term 16.07.12:
What a great year we have had! In this final week the class will finish their work on the Olympics and will be getting ready for a mini Olympics on Monday 23rd July.
Thankyou to everyone who has supported Year 3. Miss Roberts, Mrs Orr and Mrs Keye would like to wish all of you good luck for when you move into Year 4

You can keep reading over the summer by going on the Oxford Owl Reading Tree website. It is a web link below and allows you to read the books you would usually read at school, online. Have fun!

Our homework task was to produce a poster to promote the London 2012 Olympic Games. We have had some lovely work handed in and is currently on display.  However, we are still waiting for some pieces to be handed in. The work needs to be in by Monday 16th July.

We have been learning all about the Summer Solstice and Stonehenge for the last week. The children have really enjoyed learning about the mystery surrounding Stonehenge and why and how the stones got there. On Tuesday we had a traditional English games and craft day where the children made hobby horses, produced Canal Art, played traditional playground games and learnt Country Dancing. The Spanish children were visiting and we invited them to join us with the activities to show some of our traditonal culture.

For the summer term we are learning all about the Olympics and more importantly London 2012. We will be adding links to different sites about the Olympics very soon. The class will learn all about the different sports and the importance of Countries coming together to compete.

Stars of the Week
Ellecia - For reading every day and producing a brilliant story in Literacy.
Josh , Amelia , Shay  and Millie - For their excellent role play and drama performances.

Just a few quick reminders:
We currently have PE on a Monday. Please can you make sure your child comes to school with a full PE kit as some children have not brought their kit and therefore have lost points and have been unable to participate.

Tuck has changed to a Thursday due to our swimming session being in our normal slot. Children should bring no more than 60p for tuck. This is enough to buy 2 items. We can provide money bags for children to keep their tuck money safe.

Reading at Home:
Can you please make sure your child is reading every night during the school week and at least once over the weekend. It is really important for them to read regularly and consolidate their understanding of what they have read by completing the question sheets and book reviews we provide them with.
Unfortunately those children who do not bring in their reading record or have not read will lose points as this is part of the school policy.
It is clear that those children who do read regularly at home are moving up to the next level in their reading and more importantly understand what they have read, those who have read once a week have shown less progress and will be supported further in class.
We also have an award for 'Reader of the Week' in Year 3 and this can only go to a child who has read every day!
Thank you for the co-operation and support you have shown by reading with your children, you are really helping them to become better readers.
